Draft Logo

calista_com210

For this project, I decided to create a personal logo as my brand as a graphic designer. This project idea realtes perfectly to my course topic because my course topic is my journey through my graphic design internship this semester, so i thought it would be a  great idea to make a logo to be able to market myself and my brand. The design processes that inspired me was I wanted something that symbolizes me- which is my name but I also wanted to add a fun graphic twist to it as well, which is why I added the lighting bolt. The research that I did to find my design and ideas were looking on pinterest at a bunch of personal logos and just sketching how they would look with my name, I also looked at different logo websites to draw inspiration from as well. I have two main parts of my logo, one my name and the other the lighting bolt. My name obvisoult represents me and my brand, and the lighting bolt represents boldness and energy which I think are great discriptors that align with me as a person.  My design process was first getting inspiration and sketching with my name in it, then taking different elements from different designs that I really liked then morphed them into one. After sketching and finding a design I actually liked. I used Adobe capture on my phone to upload it onto illustrator. From there, I traced the image with the pen tool and filled it in. I then made minor adjustments to the logo as needed.

The elements that I gathered from this project was just finding inspiration online and personalizing it to make it my own. I took different parts of multiple logos I liked to create an original one. Some technical challenges I found was using the pen tool- it was pretty tricky to get the hang of at first since I needed it to be precise, but the more i used it the better i got at it. The advice that I have for struggling using the pen tool, is to just take it slow and don’t rush because that is when I found myself messing up!

In this project all materials are my own.

Final Graphic Design Project

For the basis of my magazine cover, I had chosen my topic to be about my design internship. To showcase who I am, I put me on the cover. As well as three small pictures. The first is representing my sorority life- which takes up a big part of my time, the second is an image that I created for my Internship at College Hill Custom Threads, and the third is a picture of a couple of my friends and I, that take up a big part of my life! And I had my title as my name. After the feedback that I got from my peers. Which was to change my font to have it more personalized, to change the title of my magazine to have it be easier to read, add text bubbles to my smaller three pictures, and change the background.

As you can see in my final draft, I blurred the background to make me be the center focus to the background. I didn’t want to change it entirely just because I really like the contrast of the greens with the flowers, so I did end up liking the effect of it being blurred. I added small text to my pictures to make it seem more like a magazine, and I changed the font of my entire project to something a little more fun. Lastly, I changed the title of the magazine from my name to something else that represents me, my age. I thought that would be a fun way to tie in myself to the title.

Again, all photos are my own and all of the creative credit goes to myself!

Draft Graphic Design Project

For this project, I decided to create a magazine cover! This project relates perfectly to my topic because my topic is about my design internship journey, so designing a magazine cover showcasing myself would be the perfect thing to represent my topic. Some things that inspired me were typical magazine covers, regardless of what topic they were. I noticed that magazines typically all had the same layout logistics. For example, a title, cover image, then smaller images and blurbs of text on the front. The research I did for this was looking online on google and Pinterest, as well as looking at magazine covers in store. The significance of the elements in my design are very particular. The title is my name and represents me, the cover image is myself. As well as three smaller images on it. The first is representing my sorority life- which takes up a big part of my time, the second is an image that I created for my Internship at College Hill Custom Threads, and the third is a picture of a couple of my friends and I, that take up a big part of my life!

First off, I thought about some of the things, other than my internship that were very important to my daily life. After I came up with the two categories, I just looked through my pictures till I found some that represented them well! Some techniques that I used were the text tool for the title. Then I used the mask technique to place me over the text, but still leaving the background intact. I also used the cropping features with the layers, as well as the borders and drop shadow around the small pictures. All the materials that I used in this project were my own as well.

Image Collection Project

Since my theme for the project for this class is going to my internship journey, I think I will be doing a magazine cover showcasing who I am as well as a project that I have completed.

This is an design that I created for College Hill Custom Threads here in Pullman.

This is my own picture of my sorority’s bid day this past year.

This is my own picture of my friends and I!

Welcome to My Internship Journey

Hi! Welcome to my first blog post in COM210. I’m going to be talking about what my topic is, why I selected it and all of that fun stuff.

The topic that I’m choosing is following my professional development within my internship this semester. I am currently a graphic design intern at College Hill Custom Threads so this project will be following my professional journey throughout this process! I will be showcasing my design skills through the projects that we are doing as well as creating a digital and physical portfolio.

There is going to be one main way that I will collect my evidence throughout this semester, and that is me! Since this topic is based around me, it is important that I am the one gathering the primary evidence. Which that will be raw photos, videos, audio, and Adobe files. For the photos, videos, and audio, I will be recording/taking them first hand to get a more personalized experience for my topic. For the files that I will be uploading, that will be my own personal work as well.

A couple examples that I have for projects this semester is, for the first project- which is a graphic design project. I will be creating a poster that is showcasing one of my favorite parts of WSU. For the second project, I will be creating a logo that will eventually go on my business cards. For the third project, which is an audio story, I will interview a couple people that already have been through this internship and how their process was. And finally for the last project I will be doing a video tutorial on Adobe.

Inspration File

This is the first link I have from my inspiration file, I love the style and the way some of these business cards are designed! There’s so much you can do!

This second link is one of my favorite resources when it comes to graphic design! There is a plethora of articles, videos and pictures when it comes to all things creative!

https://www.pantone.com/color-intelligence/articles/colors/new-native

When it comes to graphic design or just design in general, color is so extremely important! I like to keep up with Pantone quite frequently since they are the standard of color thoughout the design world.

And that is wrapping up my first blog post! Looking forward to the rest of the semester!
